Sleeping boy
The mural festival by ARTSCAPE was organized to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Gothenburg. I represent here St. Petersburg (Russia).
Unable to visit the object before arriving in Gothenburg, I walked around the territory using a Google map, collecting the color scheme for the sketch. I also thought about what St. Petersburg and Gothenburg have in common as twin cities and about the activities of the Cristian Salvation Army, on the facade of which I paint.
I like to search for ideas based on the contexts, so you can create something really close to the residents, as it turned out, for me the most important thing.
This is my first mural. I painted 90 square meters in 5 and half days. I didn't really sleep because of stress, I worked for 10-12 hours, and I definitely lost a couple of kilograms. But this is the very case when I gave my best and I am happy with the result. Such self-challenges inspire, make you believe that you can do more than you thought.
Already in the process of working, I was glad to find that I had included in the composition local cultural codes that are literally within walking distance: seagulls, wooden scandi houses and the port.
This artwork is open-ended and created with love for the locals.
Everyone is free to interpret the plot in their own context.
I remember with warmth the dialogues with the locals and the brilliant support of the project by the ARTSCAPE festival team.
